Every lap tells a story. And at the 2025 Legacy Nationals, Ethan Popovich wrote a chapter that BMX fans—and young riders everywhere—won’t soon forget.

In a weekend packed with adrenaline and elite-level racing, it was Ethan’s raw determination and race-day resilience that stole the spotlight. Representing Huffy with pride, Ethan showed why he’s one of the most electrifying talents in the U23 class, and why he’s become a role model to the next generation of riders.

“Proud of this one…”

Ethan’s own words, posted to Instagram after the win, say it all:

“Felt like I was dealt just about every card yesterday. Took everything I had to flip the switch and start fresh after a rough start in motos, but came around with the pressure on. Proud of this one…”

That “switch”—the mental gear shift that separates contenders from champions—is exactly what Ethan executed. After early setbacks in the moto rounds, he regrouped, refocused, and unleashed a blistering main event performance.

From Third to First: The Moment That Defined the Day

USA Cycling recapped it best:

“In the U23 Men’s main event, two-time Junior National Champion Ethan Popovich (Valparaiso, Ind.; Huffy Bicycles) entered the third straight in third place but dominated the rhythm section to overtake two riders and sprinted to the win at the line.”

It was textbook BMX…explosive, gritty, strategic – and Ethan nailed every element. A victory built on skill, speed, and serious composure.

Nic Long on Ethan’s Growth

Nic Long, Olympic BMX veteran and Ethan’s team manager, offered a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes grind that made this win possible:

“Ethan had been working extremely hard on improving his starting prior to this event, sending me videos almost daily. Come race day… he shook off the previous laps and laid it all on the line for the main… He showed grit and determination. Was an awesome day to witness.”

When a rider like Nic praises your resilience and race IQ, it means something. Ethan’s work ethic and commitment to growth were on full display—and it paid off when it mattered most.

To every kid watching from the stands or starting gate, Ethan’s message is clear: even when the day doesn’t start your way, you can still write your own ending.
